Stellenbeschreibung:
We are looking for an outstanding bioinformatician who will develop computing solutions in support of marine environmental studies and who is motivated to participate in ongoing research (see https://www.io-warnemuende.de/biological- oceanography.html/). The following tasks are expected to be fulfilled:
- Bioinformatic analysis and workflow development, especially with regard to next generation sequencing (MetaOMICS) of environmental data
- Introduction of students and scientists and support of projects in relation to bioinformatics and biostatistical analysis of sequence data
- Guidance on the use of multivariate data analysis and artificial intelligence tools
- Establishment of a bioinformatic research group with projects in connection with molecular biological methods in the field of ecology, biogeochemistry or evolution of marine organisms with focus on marine (micro-) organisms
The prerequisite for a successful application is MS degree or higher in computer science or life sciences with a strong computational focus. In depth experience in the analysis of "high-throughput sequencing" and "omics" data (metagenomes / metatranscriptomes, genome analyses) is required. Experience in programming (e.g. Python and R), tools of artificial intelligence (e.g. Random Forest) and biostatistics are particularly desired. Experience in marine microbial ecology is advantageous. Experience in the analysis of eukaryotic sequences is also an advantage. Candidates must have strong communication skills and follow best practices in code documentation and general record keeping. The candidate should be motivated for doing scientific research both independently and harmoniously in a team of researchers. A proactive and constructive personality as well as fluent English speaking and writing abilities are expected.
Applicants are asked to send their complete applications (list of publications, research statement, CV, copies of certificates, references) quoting the
