bioinfo/appliedBioinfo PhD position
Job annoucement The Institute of General Microbiology at the CAU has an immediate vacancy for the position of a scientific assistant (m,f,d) with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. The position is initially limited to 36 months. The regular working time is 50 % of a full-time employee (currently 19.35 hours). Salary will be commensurate at level TV-L 13 of the federal wage agreement scheme (Tarifvertrag der Länder). The position is a bioinfo/appliedBioinfo PhD position working on RNAseq, ribosome profiling and bioinformatic data analysis to identify small proteins from the anaerobic methanogenic archaeon Methanosarcina mazei. In this context, already generated peptidomics data sets will also be integrated for the overall analysis. In addition, such an overall analysis is to be carried out in collaboration with the other projects for further model systems that are being worked on in SPP2002. The candidate requirements: Prerequisites are a university degree (Masters or equivalent) in biology, biological sciences bioinformatics, computational biology or comparable. In particular, sound knowledge of computational analysis of large-scale biological data sets including transcriptomics (RNA-Seq) and whole genome sequencing. Knowledge of programming languages and software environments common to bioinformatics (Python, perl, R etc.) as well as with Unix based operating systems. The willingness to work independently and to cooperate closely with the other members of the DFG-funded priority area 'Small proteins in Prokaryotes, an unexplored world'. Fluent English is a requirement, German is a plus. The applicant should work on a dissertation in the field of small proteins in the strictly anaerobic methanogenic archaeon Methanosarcina mazei within the framework of the DFG priority programme SPP2002 (https://www.spp2002.uni-kiel.de/wordpress/). The expression of small proteins will be analysed genome-wide under different stress situations. In addition to biochemical and genetic approaches, genome-wide topical methods such as and NMR structural analyses will be applied in cooperation with central platforms of the priority programme. Due to the close connection to the priority SPP2002, we offer a highly interesting project in a motivated team and in a scientifically attractive interdisciplinary environment. The Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel aims at a higher proportion of women in research and education, and, therefore, specifically encourages qualified female scientists to apply. Female scientists will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification, competence and achievements.
